Here are the Good Shepherd OPC announcements for April 2-8, 2018.
The Lord’s Day (April 8)
The class is Reformed Worship. This week, we continue to consider “Man’s Chief End.”
The children have two classes that use Great Commission Publications curriculum.
We return to our study of Hebrews. The sermon is “Faith Seeing the Invisible” from Hebrews 11:23-28.
Romans 9:14-23, “The Freedom and Purpose of God”
The Sunday evening worship service is at 6 pm.
The Bible study is canceled on Wednesday, April 4. Please see the following announcement.
Special Announcement: The Center for Biblical Apologetics and Public Christianity at Cedarville University will hold its second annual apologetics and worldview conference titled “Living Water: Living and Sharing the Gospel in a Sexually Broken World” on April 4, 2018. Speakers Rosaria Butterfield and Sam Allberry will lead plenary sessions, and Cedarville Bible faculty will lead breakout sessions. The conference is a one-day event opening at 10 a.m. in the Dixon Ministry Center and ending at 8 p.m. Ministry leaders, church members, Cedarville students, faculty and staff are encouraged to attend. “The purpose of this conference is to present a biblical view of identity and sexuality in a winsome way that encourages and equips Christians to faithfully present Christ in our culture,” said Dr. Dan DeWitt, director of the Center for Biblical Apologetics and Public Christianity and associate professor at Cedarville University.
The Sunday school class for April 29 will be an overview of OPC Foreign Missions. At that time, all member families will receive updated prayer cards and refrigerator maps. Please consider coming to Sunday school that morning to hear about our church’s foreign missions.
The evening service on April 29 will be a church prayer meeting. The session agreed in the past that we would have prayer meetings on the fifth Sunday of five Sunday months. As we get closer, you’ll receive instructions on sending in prayer requests and participating in our prayer meeting. I hope that you would set this evening aside for church prayer.
We will receive Etienne Pienaar into communicant membership on Sunday, April 8.
The Session will meet on Tuesday, April 17 at 6:30 pm.
Some have expressed interest in giving food theme ideas for our dinners. Please submit them to Pastor Chris for review and (hopefully) implementation.
I would recommend that all older teens and adults read Rosaria Butterfield’s The Secret Thoughts of an Unlikely Convert and Openness Unhindered and Sam Allberry’s Is God Anti-Gay? to learn about issues surrounding the LGBTQ+ movement and in preparation for the conference should you desire to attend.
