Here are your Good Shepherd OPC announcements for December 11-17, 2017.
The Lord’s Day (December 17)
We consider the Mosaic covenant. This is part two of two parts.
The children have a class that uses Great Commission Publications curriculum.
We will be singing at least one Christmas hymn each week of December and we will use the Definition of Chalcedon for our Confession of Faith on December 24. This confession deals with the incarnation. If you have opportunity review it this month. The sermon text and title for Sunday is Hebrews 6:13-20, “Our Basis of Hope.”
Romans 6:12-14, “Instruments for Good”
Join us for the Sunday evening service at 6:00 pm. A question and answer period follows the service.
We continue our Bible study through the Ten Commandments on Wednesday evenings. Our next study is on the Second Commandment, “The Right God, the Right Way.” We’ll examine the Scriptures and have discussion. Join us as we dig deep.
The Session meets tonight at 6:30 pm.
Join us on Christmas Eve for Lessons and Carols at 5:30 PM. This is a great opportunity to invite friends and neighbors. The course of the meeting is to read and sing through creation, fall, and redemption, with particular focus on Christ and his incarnation. Pastor Chris will give a brief exhortation, calling all to faith, at the conclusion.
All Angel Tree names have been taken. While we have eight names, there are only four families. If more than one Good Shepherd family has a name from an Angel Tree family, please get together with the other Good Shepherd families to coordinate the giving of the gifts. Remember to include the “Message from the father” and the included booklet.
The invitation postcards and tracts are now available. Please pick up and distribute the cards and tracts to friends and neighbors. The large post cards need a USPS stamp to be mailed. The bulk mailing will be sent about a week to ten days prior to December 24. The tracts need the basic information of church name. Address, web site, and service times.
All member families will receive a copy of the Stated Congregational Meeting Minutes when they are typed and printed. If you’re not a member and would like a copy, please ask Pastor Chris.
We offer congratulations to Jessica Tangang for her completion of studies and graduation from Butler Tech with her LPN.
Pastor Chris will be away on December 31. A guest minister will preach. The evening service is canceled.
A few highlights from the Congregational Meeting: Beginning in 2018, there will be three active Ruling Elders - Mr. Maury Penn, Mr. Marius Pienaar, and Mr. Robert Taylor. The Trustees are Mr. Brian Hopson, Mr. Luke Denny, Mr. Evan Daniel, and Mr. David Simpson. They will serve for a one year term. The four By-law change requests were made with the approval of two-thirds majority of voting members at the meeting. The annual Congregational Meeting will be in December; the Deacons will be required to meet at least quarterly, not monthly; the month to nominate officers will be September; and all officers (elders and deacons) will serve perpetually and permanently, rather than with active and inactive terms. When the Constitution and By-laws are updated, they will be printed and available for your review.
The next fellowship lunch will be Sunday, January 7 after the morning worship service.
We will have a joint evening worship service on January 14 with Grace Bible Presbyterian Church. Refreshments will follow.
Expect new carpet, chairs, and a fresh coat of paint soon - probably January.
