The Lord’s Day (January 24)
Our class is a twelve week video featuring Dr. Guy Prentiss Waters, professor of New Testament at Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson MS and teaching elder in the Mississippi Valley Presbytery (PCA). He’s written several books, including several on justification. The twelve week course is entitled, “The Life and Theology of Paul.”
Class # 9: Sanctification (Part 2). In our last lesson, we began studying sanctification, which is very much a part of the gospel Paul preached (Rom. 6:19). Those who are justified become slaves of righteousness in glad submission to Christ and in the power of His resurrected life. However, we must not see sanctification as a steady succession of victories completed in weeks or months, but as a constant battle against sin in this life. In this lesson, Dr. Waters opens up Paul’s teaching on this struggle in Romans 7, which finds connections to Paul’s teaching on the battle fought between the flesh and the Spirit (Gal. 5:17) and in the armor of God (Eph. 6) and his own personal fight for self-discipline (1 Cor. 9:27). We come, then, to consider this battle for ourselves and will do so in light of Paul’s teaching on the law and remaining sin.
There are two children’s classes; both use the Great Commission Publications curriculum, Show Me Jesus.
We hear Peter’s sermon and explanation of the healing of the lame man. The text is Acts 3:11-26, “The Glorified Servant Jesus.”
Jesus begins an extended teaching on his and our relation to the Old Testament. Our text is Matthew 5:17-20, “Jesus and the Law.”
Join us for prayer each Wednesday evening from 7-8 pm.
The Session will meet on Tuesday, January 19 at 6:30 pm.
Marriage is an important, God-ordained institution for this world. As Christians, we believe that marriage is not only for intimacy and child bearing, but also it reflects Christ’s relationship to his church. Join us for a three week video study entitled “The Intimate Marriage” featuring Dr. R.C. Sproul. Our desire is to instruct us all – those who are married and those who would like to get married – in how to have a healthy, biblical marriage. Our three week study will be Friday evenings, February 5, 12, and 19. Please mark your calendar and invite a couple you know who would benefit from this course. We’ll have food and fellowship along with discussion.
Our next monthly fellowship lunch is Sunday, February 7 immediately after the service. The theme is Soup or Bowl of Salad!
The men will meet on Saturday, February 13 at 8 am for study and breakfast. Read The Practice of Holiness chapter 6 (“Humility”) and bring something to share for breakfast.
Lobby beautification: The Deacons request volunteers to form a “decorating committee” for the lobby. The committee will have a modest budget to purchase some materials or supplies. The goal is to foster fellowship and make the area welcoming.
