Here are your Good Shepherd OPC announcements and worship helps for the week of November 23-29, 2015.
If you have a prayer request, please forward it to Pastor Chris to be included in the congregational prayer on Sunday morning or evening.
The Lord’s Day (November 29)
Our new class is a twelve week video featuring Dr. Guy Prentiss Waters, professor of New Testament at Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson MS and teaching elder in the Mississippi Valley Presbytery (PCA). He’s written several books, including several on justification. The twelve week course is entitled, “The Life and Theology of Paul.”
Class # 1: Paul’s Life. Imagine if you were a first-century Christian meeting the Apostle Paul—or Saul of Tarsus, as he was called by his Jewish name. Instead of admiring him, you likely would have feared him as you faced this violent persecutor of believers. With this fact and other details in mind, we start this study of Paul’s thought with an examination of his life. Why not just jump into his theology? Because, as Dr. Waters affirms, we “can’t separate Paul the theologian from Paul the man, and Scripture certainly does not.” In this lesson, then, we will learn of Saul before his conversion on the road to Damascus. His life and experiences were shaped by the Lord for His purposes.
There are two children’s classes; both use the Great Commission Publications curriculum, Show Me Jesus.
This week our guest minister is the Rev. Ken Montgomery (M.Div. Westminster Seminary California) who will preach both morning and evening services. Please welcome him and his family as they join us for worship. His text is Matthew 15:10-20 and the title is “You Are Not What You Eat.”
Rev. Montgomery will preach this evening also. His text is Galatians 1:6-10, entitled, “Alteration Vs. Authentication.”
The prayer meeting for Wednesday, November 25, is canceled. We’ll resume next week.
The women meet for Bible study each week to study the Gospel of Matthew. Contact Ananda Pienaar for time and place.
Pastor Chris will be away the week of November 23-29, with Rev. Ken Montgomery filling the pulpit for the morning service on November 29.
The Session will meet on Friday, December 4 at 6:30 pm.
As per Form of Government (FG) XVI.1, the Session hereby calls our annual Congregational Meeting on Sunday, December 6 at 2 pm to discuss the affairs of the church. On that Sunday, we’ll have our morning service, fellowship lunch, and congregational meeting. There will be no evening worship that day.
Our monthly fellowship lunch is Sunday, December 6 immediately after the service. The theme is Christmas foods.
Angel Tree names are now available. Please choose one and if there are extra names after all have had the chance to pick, you may pick another name. Our party will be Saturday evening December 12 at 5 pm with games and food.
We will have our annual candlelight, Christmas Eve Lessons and Carols. Please consider inviting someone to hear the gospel presented in word and song.
