Here are your Good Shepherd OPC announcements and worship helps for the week of November 9-15, 2015.
If you have a prayer request, please forward it to Pastor Chris to be included in the congregational prayer on Sunday morning or evening.
The Lord’s Day (November 15)
Mercy ministry can be tricky in our society. How does one know if giving handouts really helps? How can one help the needy? How does a Christian show biblical mercy ministry? Mr. Brian Hopson continues tackling this issue in his eight week class, “Biblical Principles for Helping in a Handout World”.
There are two children’s classes; both use the Great Commission Publications curriculum, Show Me Jesus.
We begin a new series from Acts; please prepare by reading through Acts. One of the longest books in the New Testament, we’ll work our way through Acts under three main headings. The first is “The Gospel in Jerusalem” encompassing chapters 1-7. Second, we’ll see “The Gospel to Judea and Samaria” in chapters 8-12. We’ll finish with “The Gospel to the Ends of the Earth” in chapters 13-28. Since the book is long, we’ll take a break after each main section and then return after a few weeks. Our text this week is Acts 1:15, “Prologue.” We will discontinue our alternate Testament reading for a while.
We end our study of 2 Thessalonians, looking at 2 Thessalonians 3:16-18, “The Benediction.” We’ll begin a study of the so-called Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7) beginning on November 22.
The prayer meeting is Wednesday from 7-8 pm. Please send requests to Pastor Chris for compilation and use during the prayer time.
The women meet for Bible study each week to study the Gospel of Matthew. Contact Ananda Pienaar for time and place.
The Presbytery of Ohio invites our congregation to the ordination and installation of Dr. Matthew Patton to be the minister of Covenant OPC in Vandalia (101 East National Rd. Vandalia, OH) on Friday, November 13. The service begins at 6:30 pm with refreshments following.
The Gulf Presbytery (RPCNA) will be organizing the Southwest Ohio RP Church in Mason, OH. The Rev. Dr. R. E. (Dick) Knodel, Jr., will be installed as the pastor, and elders and a deacon also ordained and installed. The details are: November 13, 2015, at 7:00 p.m. at Mars Hill Academy, 4230 Aero Drive, Mason, OH 45040. This will be done by a special Organizing Commission of Presbytery. Information can be had at Dick Knodel's cell # (937) 750-9459.
The men will meet on Saturday, November 21 at 8 am for breakfast and a study. Please bring a breakfast item to share and read chapters 3-5 of The Practice of Godliness.
Pastor Chris will be away the week of November 23-29, with Rev. Ken Montgomery filling the pulpit for the morning service on November 29.
Session will meet December 3 at 6:30 pm.
As per Form of Government (FG) XVI.1, the Session hereby calls our annual Congregational Meeting on Sunday, December 6 at 2 pm to discuss the affairs of the church. On that Sunday, we’ll have our morning service, fellowship lunch, and congregational meeting. There will be no evening worship that day.
We will be receiving Angel Tree names soon. This year, we’re considering having the gift giving and party on a Saturday evening in December rather than a Sunday evening.
We will have our annual candlelight, Christmas Eve Lessons and Carols. Please consider inviting someone to hear the gospel presented in word and song.
Pastor Chris has two copies of When Helping Hurts (Corbett & Fikkert) for $10 per copy and three copies of The Practice of Godliness (Bridges) for $8 per copy. If you would like to purchase one, please let Pastor Chris know. They are overstock from other studies.
