The Lord’s Day (August 9)
The adult Sunday school class is viewing the teaching “Angels and Demons” by Dr. R. C. Sproul. Here is the class summary for Part 2, “The Heavenly Host” from the Ligonier website. “In the book of Revelation, we read of four kinds of angels, each appearing much like earthly creatures, but with a few exceptions. They all have six wings and are covered with eyes. What is the purpose for their extraordinary vision? What do they see that we don’t? Will we ever behold that which the angels look at day and night? In this message entitled “The Heavenly Host,” Dr. Sproul teaches us about the form and function of the angels gathered around the throne of God and the blessed hope of the Christian.”
There are two children’s classes; both use the Great Commission Publications curriculum, Show Me Jesus.
Hosea 3 is amazing. After eight to ten years, Gomer finds herself being sold in the slave market. She has been used up by her lovers and is now quite dispensable. Who would buy her now? Hosea, the least likely candidate, purchases a woman who is his wife. God’s grace in redemption is fully on display. Our text is Hosea 3:1-5 and the title is “Hosea Redeems a Wife.” The New Testament lesson is Revelation 21:9-27.
We will meet at 2 pm for worship, immediately after our fellowship meal. The Apostle Paul winds down his letter with bullet point instructions on Christian living. His emphasis in the first part is getting along with the church leaders and one another. The text is 1 Thessalonians 5:12-15 and the title is “Get Along with One Another.”
Sunday Evening worship is at 2 pm, immediately following our fellowship meal. If you have a hymn or psalm request, please send it to me this week.
On regular Sunday evening services which begin at 6 pm, we will have a thirty minute prayer meeting (5:15-5:45) prior to the evening service.
Wednesday Night Adult Bible Study: Christianity Explored, is an eight week video led study and gospel presentation of the Gospel of Mark. We have light refreshments, discussion, and study. We meet from 6:30-8:00. Invite a friend.
Wednesday Night Children’s Ministry. They will walk through half of Great Commission Publications’ A Pilgrim’s Progress. Each participant receives an abridged, modern edition of A Pilgrim’s Progress and a map. They meet from 6:30-8:00 pm.
The next fellowship lunch is scheduled for Sunday, August 9, immediately after morning worship. The theme is cool foods, like salads.
Mark your calendar for August 30, the next fifth Sunday month. We will meet with Redeemer OPC in Beavercreek for a joint service. It begins at 6 pm and our evening service is cancelled.
