Here are your Good Shepherd OPC announcements and worship helps for the week of June 22-28, 2015.
A Call to Prayer
Our prayer meeting is on hiatus for the summer as we introduce other ministries and study God’s Word. If you have a prayer request, please forward it to Pastor Chris to be included in the congregational prayer on Sunday morning or evening.
The Lord’s Day (June 28)
Elder Chris Crandall will begin a three week study on the Lord’s disciple and Scripture writer, Peter.
There are two children’s classes; both use the Great Commission Publications curriculum, Show Me Jesus.
We are nearing the end of our study of Amos. This week we will examine Amos 9:1-10, “The Destruction of Israel”. As we explore the destruction of Israel, notice that it is complete – there is nowhere to escape God’s judgment. The New Testament lesson is Romans 10:1-10.
In 1 Thessalonians 2:17–3:8, the Apostle Paul responds to Timothy’s report about the Thessalonians. Given Paul’s abrupt departure, he was concerned how the Thessalonians fared since his departure. The title is “Apostolic Concern.”
Sunday Evening worship is at 6 pm. If you have a psalm or hymn request, please forward it to Pastor Chris. The service is at 6 pm. Remember, you may go online to look at both the psalms and the proposed hymns for requests.
Vacation Bible School is every night this week (June 22-26) from 6-8:30. If you are helping, please try to arrive early (between 5 and 5:30) for set-up. The theme is Summer Seaquest. From the publisher’s website: Summer Seaquest anchors VBS Sea Explorers in God's Word as they follow the famous fleeing prophet Jonah, tracing his roundabout route to repentance to discover life-changing truths about the Savior he points to.
The men will meet for breakfast and study on Saturday, June 27 at 8 am. We’ll finish Michael Horton’s Ordinary. Please bring a breakfast item to share and read the last two chapters of the book.
New ministries for the summer. Following VBS, we will host an adult Bible study and children’s ministry each Wednesday evening for the summer (until August 26). This is to follow up with all of the contacts we make at VBS as well as for our edification. The adult Bible study is Christianity Explored, a seven week video led study with discussion. The children will walk through half of Great Commission Publications’ A Pilgrim’s Progress. We will have light refreshments, study, and discussion. It would be great if all of us participated and if we knew of an unbeliever, to invite him or her for our study. This ministry will begin July 1 and end on August 26. The prayer meeting will be rescheduled for Sunday evenings.
The Hopsons have invited the church to their house for an Independence Day picnic. Please bring a side dish or dessert.
The next fellowship lunch is scheduled for Sunday, July 5, immediately after morning worship. The theme will be announced.
Mark your calendars for July 13-18, 2015 Presbytery of Ohio Youth Camp at 4-H Camp Piedmont! Pastor Ken Montgomery is requesting that all from Good Shepherd who are going meet at Redeemer on July 13 for a shared ride over to the camp. Several churches from southwestern Ohio will be ride sharing. Pastor Montgomery is arranging for a vehicle to accommodate all.
