Here are your Good Shepherd OPC announcements and worship helps for the week of June 15-21, 2015.
A Call to Prayer (Wednesdays at 7 pm)
Join us for an hour of intercessory prayer each Wednesday evening. If you have a prayer request, please forward it to Pastor Chris to be included in the congregational prayer.
The Lord’s Day (June 21)
This week Elder Marius Pienaar teaches his second and final class, “Prayer in Practice”. Remember to work through the homework if you have not already done so.
1. Take Ephesians 3:14-21 and re write it so that it becomes a personal prayer
2. Use your prayer cards over the next few weeks
Next week, Elder Chris Crandall will begin a three week class on a biblical character.
There are two children’s classes; both use the Great Commission Publications curriculum, Show Me Jesus.
We are nearing the end of our study of Amos. This week we will examine Amos 8:1-14, “Of Famine and Feasting”. As we explore the destruction of Israel, we will notice that the Lord promises a judgment of a lack of bread. But the question is, “Does that remain today?” The New Testament lesson is Romans 10:5-21.
In 1 Thessalonians 2:13-16, the Apostle Paul commends the church for receiving his word as the very Word of God. How do you hear and receive preaching? I will contend that we are to hear God’s word preached in like manner – as God’s word itself. The title is “The Word of God.”
Wednesday Prayer at 7 PM, each Wednesday.
Sunday Evening worship is at 6 pm. If you have a psalm or hymn request, please forward it to Pastor Chris. The service is at 6 pm. Remember, you may go online to look at both the psalms and the proposed hymns for requests.
We will set up for VBS immediately after the morning service. Please bring a sack lunch or a snack to eat before we begin. Aftwerward, the sanctuary will be closed until we begin VBS on Monday evening. We will have our Sunday evening service in a classroom or the lobby.
Good Shepherd OPC will host our second annual Vacation Bible School June 22-26. The theme is Summer Seaquest. From the publisher’s website: Summer Seaquest anchors VBS Sea Explorers in God's Word as they follow the famous fleeing prophet Jonah, tracing his roundabout route to repentance to discover life-changing truths about the Savior he points to.
The men will meet for breakfast and study on Saturday, June 27 at 8 am. We’ll finish Michael Horton’s Ordinary. Please bring a breakfast item to share and read the last two chapters of the book.
New ministries for the summer. Next week we host Vacation Bible School from June 22-26. After it ends, we will host an adult Bible study and children’s ministry each Wednesday evening for the summer (until August 26). This is to follow up with all of the contacts we make at VBS as well as for our edification. The adult Bible study is Christianity Explored, a seven week video led study with discussion. The children will walk through half of Great Commission Publications’ A Pilgrim’s Progress. We will have light refreshments, study, and discussion. It would be great if all of us participated and if we knew of an unbeliever, to invite him or her for our study. This ministry will begin July 1 and end on August 26. The prayer meeting will be rescheduled for Sunday evenings.
A note from Dr. Alan Strange: “At the end of July (25, 29, and 31), Cincinnati Opera is doing Turandot. And on the 30th and 31st, the Reds are playing the Pirates. I was thinking about doing the Opera on either the 29th or 31st and doing the Reds game in between (the 30th): that’s a Thursday. I thought of you especially with the Pirates. I was wondering if you had any connections for tickets for either (or knew those in the congregation or elsewhere who might).” Anyone have a connection for tickets to either? Would anyone be interested in attending the Pirates-Reds game on July 30th?
The Hopsons have invited the church to their house for an Independence Day picnic. Details are forthcoming.
The next fellowship lunch is scheduled for Sunday, July 5, immediately after morning worship. The theme will be announced.
Mark your calendars for July 13-18, 2015 Presbytery of Ohio Youth Camp at 4-H Camp Piedmont! Pastor Ken Montgomery is requesting that all from Good Shepherd who are going meet at Redeemer on July 13 for a shared ride over to the camp. Several churches from southwestern Ohio will be ride sharing. Pastor Montgomery is arranging for a vehicle to accommodate all.
