Here are your Good Shepherd OPC announcements and worship helps for the week of June 8-14, 2015.
A Call to Prayer (Wednesdays at 7 pm)
Tonight’s Prayer Meeting is cancelled. If you have a prayer request, please forward it to Pastor Chris to be included in the congregational prayer.
The Lord’s Day (June 14)
This week, Pastor Chris will make a General Assembly update. We are a Presbyterian church which means that we have three courts: the local church session; the presbytery; and the general assembly. What happens at each level affects the members of each local church. Please come to hear about my adventures and travel to Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa.
There are two children’s classes; both use the Great Commission Publications curriculum, Show Me Jesus.
We pick up our series in Amos by looking at the third vision and the first with an appendix. Our scripture text is Amos 7:7-17, entitled, “A Plumb Line.” The New Testament lesson is Romans 9:30-10:4.
The Apostle Paul uses several analogies to describe the ministry of the church. In 1 Thessalonians 2, he refers to the church’s ministry as a nursing mother and as a father with children. We will look at these metaphors and the church’s work. Our text is 1 Thessalonians 1:7-13 and the title is “We Are Family.”
Wednesday Prayer at 7 PM, each Wednesday. This week, the prayer meeting is canceled.
Sunday Evening worship is at 6 pm. If you have a psalm or hymn request, please forward it to Pastor Chris. The service is at 6 pm.
The next fellowship lunch is scheduled for Sunday, July 5, immediately after morning worship. The theme will be announced.
We will host a community picnic on Saturday evening, June 13. Like last year, we will provide food and games for all participants with the goal of inviting the community to church and to register children for VBS. We will begin at 5 pm. Please come at 4 for set-up and please bring a dessert to share with all. The church will provide the main dishes. The goal is to keep the food to something that can be eaten with one’s hands (e.g., hamburgers, cookies, etc.).
Good Shepherd OPC will host our second annual Vacation Bible School June 22-26. The theme is Summer Seaquest. From the publisher’s website: Summer Seaquest anchors VBS Sea Explorers in God's Word as they follow the famous fleeing prophet Jonah, tracing his roundabout route to repentance to discover life-changing truths about the Savior he points to.
The men will meet for breakfast and study on Saturday, June 27 at 8 am. We’ll finish Michael Horton’s Ordinary. Please bring a breakfast item to share and read the last two chapters of the book.
Mark your calendars for July 13-18, 2015 Presbytery of Ohio Youth Camp at 4-H Camp Piedmont! For the senior High, the speaker, Rev. Dr. Carl Trueman, Professor of church history, Westminster Theological Seminary and pastor, Cornerstone OPC Ambler PA will be presenting messages from “The Book of Judges.” For the Junior High, the speaker, Rev. Bob McKelvey will teach class sessions on “Fighting the Deceiver with the Full Armor of God” using Scripture and catechism curriculum produced by Children’s Ministries International.
