Here are your Good Shepherd OPC announcements and worship helps for the week of April 20-26, 2015.
A Call to Prayer (Wednesdays at 7 pm) Join us for an hour of prayer this and every Wednesday evening from 7-8 pm. This is a good chance to minister to one another in love through prayer. If you have a prayer request, please forward it to Pastor Chris by Wednesday afternoon to be included in the prayer meeting. The Lord’s Day (April 26) Sunday School Mr. Alex Eppstein continues an eight week study on the Gospel of Mark. During the summer, we will have a General Assembly update and three or four short classes. The summer term begins June 7. There are two children’s classes; both use the Great Commission Publications curriculum, Show Me Jesus. Morning Worship We continue our study of the challenging prophet, Amos. After announcing the finality of judgment in chapter 3, Amos focuses his accusation of sin in chapter 4. In chapter five, the Lord laments over Israel because the nation will undergo judgment. The Lord does not love the death of a sinner. The text is Amos 5:1-17 and the title is ‘A Ray of Light in Utter Darkness’. The New Testament reading is Romans 8:1-17. Evening Worship We end our series on the Westminster Shorter Catechism with question 107, considering the conclusion to the Lord’s Prayer. The text is Matthew 6:13 (in the ESV footnote) and the various supporting texts and the title is “Concluding Our Prayers.” WSC 107 What doth the conclusion of the Lord's prayer teach us? A. The conclusion of the Lord's prayer (which is, For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever, Amen) teacheth us to take our encouragement in prayer from God only, and in our prayers to praise him, ascribing kingdom, power, and glory to him. And, in testimony of our desire, and assurance to be heard, we say, Amen. Announcements Wednesday Prayer at 7 PM, each Wednesday. Sunday Evening worship is at 6 pm. If you have a psalm or hymn request, please forward it to Pastor Chris. The Women's Bible Study is meets each Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Miller’s house. The church will be hosting a progressive dinner on Friday, May 8, from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm. Please sign up on the new and revised registration sheet in the church lobby. Each family is asked to bring at least one dish to make the meal successful. The Hostess of the house where you are sign up will contact you with the details of what dish (salad, entrée or dessert) you have to bring. We need to know how many people are coming by Sunday May 3 so that the Hostesses can assign guests with food to bring. Contact Sarah Taylor with questions. Thank you to all who participated in the church work day. The Session will meet on Tuesday, April 28 at 6:30 pm. The next fellowship lunch is scheduled for Sunday, May 3, immediately after morning worship. The theme is Mexican or Tex-Mex food. Upcoming Events The General Assembly is the governing body of the whole church and the highest court of appeal in judicial matters. It consists of approximately 150 voting commissioners, including the moderator and stated clerk of the previous assembly and such ministers and ruling elders as are commissioned by their respective presbyteries. The 82nd GA is called to meet at Dordt College, Sioux Center, Iowa, from June 3–9, 2015. You may find more information at the Orthodox Presbyterian Church website (www.opc.org/ga.html). Good Shepherd OPC will host our second annual Vacation Bible School June 22-26. The theme is Summer Seaquest. From the publisher’s website: Summer Seaquest anchors VBS Sea Explorers in God's Word as they follow the famous fleeing prophet Jonah, tracing his roundabout route to repentance to discover life-changing truths about the Savior he points to. We’ll be asking for volunteers to help in this ministry. Mark your calendars for July 13-18, 2015 Presbytery of Ohio Youth Camp at 4-H Camp Piedmont! For the senior High, the speaker, Rev. Dr. Carl Trueman, Professor of church history, Westminster Theological Seminary and pastor, Cornerstone OPC Ambler PA will be presenting messages from “The Book of Judges.” For the Junior High, the speaker, Mr. Danny Priano, youth director, Providence PCA Pittsburgh PA will lead class sessions on “Fighting the Deceiver with the Full Armor of God” using Scripture and catechism curriculum produced by Children’s Ministries International.
