Here are your Good Shepherd OPC announcements and worship helps for the week of February 10-16, 2014.
A voice says, "Cry!" And I said, "What shall I cry?" All flesh is grass, and all its beauty is like the flower of the field. The grass withers, the flower fades when the breath of the LORD blows on it; surely the people are grass. The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever. (Isaiah 40:6-8)
A Call to Prayer (Wednesday, February 12, 2014; 7 pm)
Join us for an hour of prayer this and every Wednesday evening from 7-8 pm. This is a terrific chance to minister to one another in love through prayer. If you have a prayer request, please forward it to Pastor Chris my Wednesday afternoon to be included in the prayer gathering.
The Lord’s Day Morning (February 16, 2014)
For the next six weeks, I will continue our study of Colossians, picking up in Colossians 1:15 with the preeminence of Christ. As we saw in 1 Peter 1 last week and as we’ll see in Colossians 1, the apostles are firm in placing the object of our faith – Jesus Christ – front and center in their respective letters.
There are two children’s classes; both use the Great Commission Publications curriculum.
The Old Testament Lesson is Isaiah 40:1-15 and the New Testament Lesson, which is the sermon text, is 1 Peter 1:22-25. The sermon is entitled, Holiness and the Imperishable Seed. The entirety of the chapter is one section (1:13-25) regarding holiness in the believer’s life, but we will parcel it into three segments in order to study Peter’s instruction on holiness in detail. We come to the third and final section on holiness. Let’s be in prayer and action about our holiness in this life.
This Lord’s Day, we will continue our study of the Westminster Shorter Catechism, examining question 22: Q. 22. How did Christ, being the Son of God, become man? A. Christ, the Son of God, became man, by taking to himself a true body and a reasonable soul, being conceived by the power of the Holy Ghost in the womb of the virgin Mary, and born of her, yet without sin. The sermon text is Philippians 2:5-11 and the title is ‘The Son of God Became Man.’
