Here are your Good Shepherd OPC announcements and worship helps for the week of February 2-8, 2015.
A Call to Prayer (Wednesdays at 7 pm)
Join us for an hour of prayer this and every Wednesday evening from 7-8 pm. This is a good chance to minister to one another in love through prayer. If you have a prayer request, please forward it to Pastor Chris by Wednesday afternoon to be included in the prayer meeting.
The Lord’s Day (February 8, 2015)
Pastor Chris is teaching through the Westminster Confession of Faith. This week we’ll finish chapter one, Of Holy Scripture. Please read the Westminster Confession of Faith chapter 1 and its proof texts in preparation for class. Our study is called “Knowing What You Believe.”
There are two children’s classes; both use the Great Commission Publications curriculum.
One of our conference speakers, the Rev. Dr. Alan Strange, professor of Church History at Mid-America Reformed Seminary and an associate pastor at New Covenant Community Church (OPC) in New Lenox, Illinois, will preach this Lord’s Day. His text is Romans 15:1-13 under the title, The God of Hope. The Old Testament reading is Isaiah 11:1-16.
Our evening worship study is through the ordinary means of grace – the Word of God preached, the sacraments, and prayer. Having completed the first means of grace, we’ll slowly work through the sacraments. This week we’ll examine WSC 96-97, “Eating With the Lord.” Our text is 1 Corinthians 11:23-26.
WSC 96 What is the Lord's supper?
A. The Lord's supper is a sacrament, wherein, by giving and receiving bread and wine, according to Christ's appointment, his death is showed forth; and the worthy receivers are, not after a corporal and carnal manner, but by faith, made partakers of his body and blood, with all his benefits, to their spiritual nourishment, and growth in grace.
WSC 97 What is required to the worthy receiving of the Lord's supper?
A. It is required of them that would worthily partake of the Lord's supper, that they examine themselves of their knowledge to discern the Lord's body, of their faith to feed upon him, of their repentance, love, and new obedience; lest, coming unworthily, they eat and drink judgment to themselves.
Wednesday Prayer at 7 PM, each Wednesday.
Sunday Evening worship is at 6 p.m. If you have a hymn or psalm request, please send it to me for our hymn sing.
The Women's Bible Study is meets each Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Miller’s house.
