Here are your Good Shepherd OPC announcements and worship helps for the week of September 8-14, 2014.
1 See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2 Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. 3 And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure. (1 John 3:1-3)
A Call to Prayer (Wednesday, September 10, 2014; 7 pm)
Join us for an hour of prayer this and every Wednesday evening from 7-8 pm. This is a good chance to minister to one another in love through prayer. If you have a prayer request, please forward it to Pastor Chris by Wednesday afternoon to be included in the prayer meeting.
The Lord’s Day (September 14, 2014)
We are at Lecture 10, “Resurrection” in our video series, What Did Jesus Do? Understanding the Work of Christ. Here is a summary of this lesson from the Ligonier Ministries website: “The Jewish and Roman leaders probably breathed a sigh of relief after Jesus died on the cross. They were finally rid of this man who had exposed their evil and hypocrisy. Or so they thought. In this lecture, Dr. R.C. Sproul looks at the redemptive significance of the resurrection of Jesus, explaining how it is at the very core of the Christian faith.”
There are also two children’s classes; both use the Great Commission Publications curriculum.
There is an Inquirer’s Class for anyone desiring to know more about Good Shepherd – who we are, what we believe, how we worship, etc. Covenant children interested in making a profession of faith are welcome.
WLC 174 What is required of them that receive the sacrament of the Lord's supper in the time of the administration of it?
A. It is required of them that receive the sacrament of the Lord's supper, that, during the time of the administration of it, with all holy reverence and attention they wait upon God in that ordinance, diligently observe the sacramental elements and actions, heedfully discern the Lord's body, and affectionately meditate on his death and sufferings, and thereby stir up themselves to a vigorous exercise of their graces; in judging themselves, and sorrowing for sin; in earnest hungering and thirsting after Christ, feeding on him by faith, receiving of his fulness, trusting in his merits, rejoicing in his love, giving thanks for his grace; in renewing of their covenant with God, and love to all the saints.
On Sunday, we will continue with our study of false teachers from 2 Peter 3:8-10. How often do you think about Christ’s Second Coming? Do you think about it in relation to evangelism? Do you err in thinking that God is slow to keep His promises? The sermon is entitled “The Lord is Patient.” The Old Testament lesson is Leviticus 14:33-56.
We continue our study through the Ten Commandments. On Sunday, we will look at the seventh commandment from Exodus 20:14 under the title, “Maintaining Chastity and Faithfulness.”
WSC 70 Which is the seventh commandment?
A. The seventh commandment is, Thou shalt not commit adultery.
