The Presbytery of Ohio is sponsoring a Fall Youth Rally (7th-12th grades) hosted by Grace Presbyterian Church in Columbus. The event will be November 4-6; the cost is $15; and the speaker is Rev. Brad Peppo, who will speak on “Giving a Reason for Your Hope.” Brochures are available on the church kiosk. You may contact Grace directly for registration or scholarships at youthrally.grace@gmail.com. Our next fellowship lunch is Sunday, November 6 after morning worship. Our food theme is Thanksgiving foods. There will be no Sunday evening worship. Instead we will have a Congregational Meeting after lunch. The Session has called for two more Congregational Meetings. The first is November 6 after the fellowship lunch. We will affirm or deny our participation in the Fanning the Flame coaching and church revitalization ministry. The second is December 4 after the fellowship lunch. This is our regularly scheduled annual meeting to hear the state of the church, review the budget, and offer feedback or questions to the pastor, session, and deacons. November is National Diabetes Month. Every 17 seconds someone is diagnosed with diabetes, a disease which kills more people each year than breast cancer and AIDS combined. The American Diabetes Association’s website states that as many as 1 in 3 American adults will have diabetes in 2050 unless steps are taken to stop this disease. Early detection is critical. This is why Good Shepherd Orthodox Presbyterian Church is hosting Life Line Screening, the nation’s leading provider of preventive health screenings onTuesday, November 15, 2016. One of the tests is a simple blood test for glucose (sugar) which can determine if a person is at-risk of developing diabetes. Other screenings include tests to check for blocked carotid arteries, atrial fibrillation, and high blood pressure, which are the three leading risk factors for stroke. Nearly 800,000 strokes will occur this year, taking a life approximately every four minutes. There are also tests to check for abdominal aortic aneurysms and PAD, also called “hardening of the arteries” in the legs. Diabetes is a major risk factor for stroke and is directly related to Peripheral Arterial Disease. Recommendations for people with diabetes included a PAD test starting at age 50. Screening packages start at $139. Single tests cost around $70. For more information regarding the screenings or to schedule an appointment, call 1-888-653-6441. Pre-registration is required.
