Here are your Good Shepherd OPC announcements and worship helps for the week of January 12-18, 2015.
A Call to Prayer (Wednesdays at 7 pm)
Join us for an hour of prayer this and every Wednesday evening from 7-8 pm. This is a good chance to minister to one another in love through prayer. If you have a prayer request, please forward it to Pastor Chris by Wednesday afternoon to be included in the prayer meeting.
The Lord’s Day (January 18, 2015)
Pastor Chris is teaching through the Westminster Confession of Faith. This week we’ll spend some time in chapter one looking at God’s Word. Please read the Westminster Confession of Faith chapter 1 and its proof texts in preparation for class. Our study is called “Knowing What You Believe.”
There are two children’s classes; both use the Great Commission Publications curriculum.
We continue our eight part Jonah series, The Reluctant Prophet. The author of the Book of Jonah throws the reader into immediate conflict. Jonah is to go east, but he heads west, on a ship bound for ports unknown (Tarshish). On Sunday, we’ll read about God’s response to Jonah’s rebellion in Jonah 1:4-16, “Man Overboard.” The New Testament Lesson is Romans 2:1-11.
Our evening worship study is through the ordinary means of grace – the Word of God preached, the sacraments, and prayer. Having completed the first means of grace, we’ll slowly work through the sacraments. This week we’ll examine WSC 91, “The Spirit’s Work in the Sacraments.” 1 Corinthians 3:7 is our text.
WSC 91 How do the sacraments become effectual means of salvation?
A. The sacraments become effectual means of salvation, not from any virtue in them, or in him that doth administer them; but only by the blessing of Christ, and the working of his spirit in them that by faith receive them.
Wednesday Prayer at 7 PM, each Wednesday.
Sunday Evening worship is at 6 p.m. If you have a hymn or psalm request, please send it to me for our hymn sing.
The Women's Bible Study is meets each Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Miller’s house.
The next fellowship lunch is Sunday, February 1, immediately after morning worship. Theme to be determined.
