Here are the Good Shepherd OPC announcements for March 18-24, 2019.
The Lord’s Day (March 24)
Our class is called “God’s Word is a Lamp: Learning to Study God’s Word.” This week: “What is Hermeneutics? Establishing Guidelines and Rules for Interpreting.”
The children have two classes that use Great Commission Publications curriculum.
1 Samuel 22:6-23, Reckoning with Hatred and Human Injustice
Acts 8:32-35; Hebrews 7:25, Christ Our Priest (WSC 25). As we look at each office Jesus puts into effect, we’ll further define what we mean by office and how Jesus acts both when he was on earth (His humiliation) and now at the Father’s right hand (His exaltation).
The evening worship service is at 5:30 pm, with a Q & A following.
The Wednesday study will take a hiatus until late spring when we’ll return for the annual home group/summer study. If you would like to host a group for the 10-12 weeks we’ll meet, let an elder know. Also, if you have a topic or book that you think we should study, let a session member know.
The Presbytery of Ohio’s annual Youth rally will be hosted by Grace OPC (Columbus) on March 22-24, 2019. It’s called “Declaring the End from the Beginning.” The Rev. Brad Peppo will speak on the decrees of God and the freedom of man. The cost is $10 per person if departing on Saturday and $15 if you stay until Sunday. Please contact Pastor Chris for all details as the registration deadline is approaching quickly and a late is assessed.
The March 31 evening service is an all church prayer meeting. Let’s meet for an hour and worship the Lord through prayer.
The next fellowship lunch is Sunday, April 7 after morning worship. Let’s try something we’ve never done: empanadas. From the University of Nebraska website (www.food.unl.edu): “An empanada is a stuffed bread or pastry that is fried or baked and served in many Latin American countries. The filling can consist of a variety of meats, vegetables and even fruits. They can be fun to make as a group activity at a party or with children. [Check PBS Kids for an easy recipe that can be used in designing your own or make an internet search for a recipe.]” Let’s be creative. Here’s the link: https://food.unl.edu/april-food-calendar. April 8 is National Empanada Day.
The evening worship service for April 7 will be at 2:00 pm.
New Song, the a Capella singing group from Geneva College will return for a concert on Monday, June 24. Details will follow. We are asked to host the students for a night. If you would be interested, let an elder know.
On July 8-13, 2019, the Presbytery of Ohio will have its annual youth summer camp. Brochures with detailed information, speakers, topics, costs, etc. are available at the church. Scholarships are available for those in need.
