The Lord’s Day (December 6)
Our new class is a twelve week video featuring Dr. Guy Prentiss Waters, professor of New Testament at Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson MS and teaching elder in the Mississippi Valley Presbytery (PCA). He’s written several books, including several on justification. The twelve week course is entitled, “The Life and Theology of Paul.”
Class # 2: Paul’s Conversion and Calling. In Acts 8, Saul of Tarsus was on his way to Damascus to apprehend Christians fleeing from persecution in that city. Little did he realize that the Lord was shaping his entire life for this decisive moment. Both Paul (Gal. 1, Phil. 3, and 1 Tim. 1) and Luke (Acts 9, 22, and 26) would one day look back on this event as a watershed in Paul’s life. On this very Damascus road, as Dr. Waters observes, “grace burst into the life of Saul of Tarsus.” In this lesson, then, we will study the details of Paul’s conversion and calling. We observe a wonderful relationship between what happened to Paul specifically and all sinners generally when Christ enters their lives. In the process, we will consider the claims of some scholars that while Paul’s call occurred here, his conversion did not.
There are two children’s classes; both use the Great Commission Publications curriculum, Show Me Jesus.
We return to Acts to learn about the replacement of one of the twelve witnesses. Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, died a horrible death. His abdication of his office through betraying Jesus called out for a replacement. Our text is Acts 1:12-26 and the title is “An Apostolic Band.”
The evening worship service is canceled this week. Instead, we will have our annual Congregational Meeting at 2 pm.
Join us for our prayer meeting each Wednesday evening from 7-8 pm. Send any requests to Pastor Chris so they may be incorporated into our prayer.
The women meet for Bible study each week to study the Gospel of Matthew. Contact Ananda Pienaar for time and place.
The Session will meet on Friday, December 4 at 6:30 pm.
As per Form of Government (FG) XVI.1, the Session hereby calls our annual Congregational Meeting on Sunday, December 6 at 2 pm to discuss the affairs of the church. On that Sunday, we’ll have our morning service, fellowship lunch, and congregational meeting. There will be no evening worship that day.
Our monthly fellowship lunch is Sunday, December 6 immediately after the service. The theme is Christmas foods.
Angel Tree names are now available. Please choose one and if there are extra names after all have had the chance to pick, you may pick another name. Our party will be Saturday evening December 12 at 5 pm with games and food.
We will have our annual candlelight, Christmas Eve Lessons and Carols. Please consider inviting someone to hear the gospel presented in word and song.
The next Men's breakfast and study is Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 8 am.
