These are your Good Shepherd OPC announcements and worship helps for the week of May 30-June 5, 2016.
If you have a prayer request, please forward it to Pastor Chris to be included in the congregational prayer on Sunday morning or evening.
The Lord’s Day (June 5)
Two new classes begin on Sunday.
Developing Christian Character, a twelve week video series featuring Dr. R. C. Sproul. An overview from the website: What characterizes Christians? The apostle Paul tells us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Gal. 5:22-23). It is through the Spirit that we develop these traits, grow in grace, and glorify God. Dr. R.C. Sproul explores these qualities and the transforming power they evidence. The first class is called, “The Struggle for Spiritual Growth.”
The Inquirer’s Class, taught by Pastor Chris. This class is designed for visitors, covenant children, and non-members who desire membership at Good Shepherd OPC. During the summer months, we will explore basic aspects of the church, including its beliefs, government, worship, and history. No one is obligated to membership upon completing the course; however, it is essential to all who desire membership. All class participants will receive a free book, Presbytopia by Ken Golden.
There are two children’s classes which use Great Commission Publications curriculum.
Today we will meet an Ethiopian eunuch who desires the key to unlocking the Scripture. Philip the evangelist teaches him the truth in Acts 8:26-40, “The Key to Unlock Scripture.”
Join us immediately after the morning worship service for lunch. Our theme is picnic foods and we ask that everyone brings something with this theme to share. All are welcome to eat with us.
The evening worship service is at 2 pm. We’ll return to the Lord’s Prayer, Matthew 5:11a, “Your Kingdom Come.”
Join us for our prayer meeting each Wednesday at 7 pm. Please send any requests to Pastor Chris before the meeting begins.
A big thank you to all who helped with the work days at the Crandall’s house and at the church. Your work is much appreciated.
Join us for our fellowship lunch on Sunday, June 5, immediately after morning worship. The theme is picnic foods and all are welcome to eat with us.
The summer adult Sunday school classes will begin June 5 at 9:30 am. One class will watch a video called "Developing Christian Character" taught by R. C. Sproul. The other class is the Inquirer's Class. If you are a visitor who would like to learn about the church, if you are desiring to be a member, or if you are a non-communicant member and desire to become a member, please come to this class taught by Pastor Chris. Everyone who comes will receive a free book entitled Presbytopia. Attending the class does not obligate anyone to be a member, but if you would like to be a member, you will need to take the class.
The General Assembly is the governing body of the whole church and the highest court of appeal in judicial matters. It consists of approximately 150 voting commissioners, including the moderator and stated clerk of the previous assembly and ministers and ruling elders commissioned by their presbyteries. The 83rd GA is called to meet at Sandy Cove Conference Center, North East, Maryland, from June 8–14, 2016. Pastor Chris is a commissioner.
For Sunday, June 12, Mr. Alex Eppstein will fill the pulpit in the morning service. The Lord’s Supper will not be served. The evening service is canceled, but instead there will be a prayer meeting, especially for our summer ministries from 6-7 pm.
Good Shepherd OPC’s new summer ministries begin on Sunday, June 19. For ten Sunday evenings, we’ll begin worship at 5:30 pm and have a time of fellowship at the conclusion of the service. Our service will be shorter and allow time for questions following the sermon. It will be a good opportunity to bring a friend. The topic will be Christ’s church as we delve into Revelation chapters 1-3.
We’ll also be having two Bible studies during the summer. One will start June 21 and run on Tuesday evenings and meet at the Denny house. We’ll begin at 7 pm. Thinking about the church, we’ll study the Book of Ephesians. The second study will start June 23 and run on Thursday evenings, also beginning at 7 pm. This study will be at Kevin Yoho’s house and we’ll study the topic of the end times. More information is available at the church. Each study is geared for you to invite friends and neighbors and we have invitation cards available.
OPC Missionary Dinner and Presentation. Redeemer OPC will be hosting the Richline family (missionaries to Uruguay) on Saturday July 9th for a fellowship dinner and presentation. For the meal at 5:00 pm, please bring a dish (hot or cold) to share. At 6:00 pm, we will hear Mark Richline present on the Lord’s work in building the church in Uruguay.
The scheduled week for the Presbytery of Ohio Youth Camp July 11-16.
The men and women are postponing their Bible studies until September.
