The Lord’s Day (August 16)
The adult Sunday school class is viewing the teaching “Angels and Demons” by Dr. R. C. Sproul. Here is the class summary for Part 3, “Earthly Enforcers” from the Ligonier website. “From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible is full of accounts of angels interrelating with people. But angels do more on earth than deliver messages from on high. They not only deliver God’s word, they enforce it. In this message entitled “Earthly Enforcers,” Dr. Sproul discusses the role of angels as governmental enforcers here on earth.”
There are two children’s classes; both use the Great Commission Publications curriculum, Show Me Jesus.
The Lord prosecutes a covenant lawsuit against Israel, indicting the people for failing to keep the law, the priests for not teaching God’s law, and promising punishment for both priests and people for their covenant unfaithfulness. Our text is Hosea 4:1-19 and the title is “Destroyed For a Lack of Knowledge.” The New Testament lesson is Romans 12:9-21.
The Apostle Paul winds down his letter with bullet point instructions on Christian living. His emphasis in the first part is getting along with the church leaders and one another. We’ll look at the third and final portion of the letter’s finale. The text is 1 Thessalonians 5:16-22 and the title is “Considering Worship.”
