Here are your Good Shepherd OPC announcements and worship helps for the week of March 2-8, 2015.
A Call to Prayer (Wednesdays at 7 pm)
Join us for an hour of prayer this and every Wednesday evening from 7-8 pm. This is a good chance to minister to one another in love through prayer. If you have a prayer request, please forward it to Pastor Chris by Wednesday afternoon to be included in the prayer meeting.
The Lord’s Day (March 8)
Pastor Chris is teaching through the Westminster Confession of Faith. This week we’ll really finish chapter one, Of Holy Scripture. Please read the Westminster Confession of Faith chapter 1 and its proof texts in preparation for class. Our study is called “Knowing What You Believe.”
There are two children’s classes; both use the Great Commission Publications curriculum, Show Me Jesus.
On Sunday morning we begin a new Minor Prophet, Amos. Much of Amos is about God’s judgment, both to Israel and Judah and to the nations surrounding them. Amos is a “southerner” that is, he is born in the Southern Kingdom of Judah, but directs most of his prophecies towards the Northern Kingdom, Israel. You may want to read some background to the prophetic book. If so, read 2 Kings 14-15 and the Book of Amos. For Sunday, we will introduce the book and the Prophet. Our text is Amos 1:1-2 and the title is “The Day of the Lion.” Our New Testament lesson is Romans 5:1-11.
Our evening worship study is through the ordinary means of grace – the Word of God preached, the sacraments, and prayer. Having completed the first and second means of grace, we’ll slowly work through prayer. This week we’ll examine WSC 101, “Hallowed Be Your Name.” Our texts are Matthew 6:9b and Psalm 100:3-4.
WSC 101 What do we pray for in the first petition?
A. In the first petition (which is, Hallowed by thy name) we pray, That God would enable us and others to glorify him in all that whereby he maketh himself known; and that he would dispose all things to his own glory.
Remember to “Spring Forward” Saturday evening. We move to Daylight Savings Time beginning Sunday March 8, so please remember to turn your clocks ahead 1 hour.
